Job Description

The Kennedy Center is seeking an experienced part-time assistant editor to support its editorial team with the organization of assets and deliverables for its broadcast television and streaming series.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ingest media and organize files for the Kennedy Center’s network-attached storage (NAS)
  • Transcode proxy files and transfer project contents onto editors’ working hard drives
  • Sync and multi-cam footage
  • Send synced outputs for transcription with appropriate timecodes
  • Upload synced dailies for producer/director review
  • Ensure that all editors’ projects are operating in an organized fashion according to the Kennedy Center’s workflow practices
  • Track editorial assets and media for the creative team and update post-production resources accordingly
  • Organize footage selects
  • Conform and prep locked sequences for color, finishing, and audio mix
  • Depending on the project, the assistant editor may handle final conform and delivery of assets
  • Understand quality control protocols and workflows
  • Technical know-how and problem-solving skills for on-the-fly equipment/software fixes

Key Qualifications

  • Programs and Skills: Adobe Premiere Pro, Mac OS, and Adobe Creative Suite. Familiarity with DaVinci Resolve and Pro Tools is preferred
  • 1-2 years experience as an assistant editor preferably with a television or live-streaming background
  • Superb organizational and project management skills are required
  • Sharp attention to detail and ability to flag issues/changes to the relevant team members
  • Good understanding of file-based HD workflows between Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, AfterEffects, and ProTools
  • Familiarity with Mac OS, Frame.io, and G-Suite
  • Ability to convert media to editable formats and correct frame rates
  • Strong understanding of finishing workflows and how to neatly prep conformed edits for a finishing editor or vendor
  • Strong understanding of proxy workflows, multi-camera editing, syncing, and transcoding is required
  • Stong understanding of jam-synced timecode is preferred
  • A general interest in the performing arts
  • Live-performance video editing and streaming experience is a plus
  • Candidate must be located within the DMV area
