Prepares and delivers technical guidance, age appropriate, and skill focused lessons based upon participant’s abilities. Completes incident/accident reports as necessary. May be required to perform duties as a lifeguard when necessary, only if swim instructor is also current in Red Cross lifeguard certification.  Work requires flexible hours (weekends, mornings, and evenings). Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Skill in swimming, water rescues, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and first aid. Skill in the use of pool equipment, chemicals and tools. Ability to effectively interpret and implement Red Cross curriculum and guidelines for swim lessons. Ability to determine the appropriate skill level for participants. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and/or in writing. Ability to understand and communicate with children.   Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to walk, stand, reach, kneel, and lift throughout the working day. Ability to see clearly. Ability to hear. Ability to work in hot, cold, humid, wet and loud environments. Ability to be proactive in regards to safety precautions, to recognize emergencies, and to take appropriate action. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Ability to handle distressed swimmers and patrons in a professional manner. Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives. Ability to serve as a role model, demonstrating dependability, enthusiasm and creativity. Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions. Ability to think clearly in emergency situations when necessary.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with campers, parents, other employees and the general public. Ability to recognize obvious safety hazards.  PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
