Graduation from high school or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must possess a valid State of Florida Driver's license.
Successful completion of a drug screen and criminal history background investigation is required prior to employment.
Evening and weekend work hours may be required.
This is moderately heavy manual and routine cleaning and maintenance work on buildings and grounds.
An employee assigned to this classification performs manual work involving a variety of tasks including cleaning, moving, and assembling furniture and equipment, making simple repairs on buildings and equipment, and the general maintenance of grounds and shrubbery.
Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Makes simple repairs to buildings and equipment.
Performs simple preventative maintenance on buildings and equipment.
Replaces light bulbs.
Installs office and library equipment; moves and assembles office and library furniture and equipment.
Performs janitorial work as assigned.
Mows and rakes lawns, trims hedges, prunes shrubbery, gathers debris; maintains clean grounds area.
Completes predesigned check sheets on subcontractor performance.
Assists Building Mechanics in advanced skilled tasks.
Informs Building Mechanics of obvious deficiencies in subcontractor work.
Drives a District vehicle to perform duties as required at various Alachua County Library branches.
Performs related and other work as assigned.

Knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment typically used in janitorial work.

Some knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment typically used in carpentry, painting and plumbing.
Ability to safely operate a District vehicle.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions in English.
Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and tools.
Ability to recognize obvious safety hazards.
Ability to perform a variety of routine custodial and maintenance tasks in the limited care and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and grounds area.
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing; ability to complete simple logs and reports.
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with coworkers and the public.
Ability to lift and move heavy objects.
Ability to understand how and why Library policies and procedures were developed.
