PAY AND BENEFITS

Annual Pay Range: $41,479.88 - $52,203.83

Hourly Pay Range: $19.942249 - $25.097997

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS

This is a great entry level opportunity to work side-by-side with a team of dynamic dental professionals providing services and care to the community. We are looking for an individual who loves a challenge, looking for personal development and who is very dependable. Dental experience is preferred, but not required.

The Clackamas County Health Centers Division - Dental Health Clinics is looking for a highly motivated and multi-tasking individual to provide support to dental assistants and providers in maintaining a sterile and aseptic environment. The Dental Sterilization Technician provides sterilization of dental instruments and trays including sorting, cleaning, and decontaminating instruments following standard procedures and techniques. Incumbents are responsible for inventory control and maintenance, environmental maintenance checks, and may clean or prepare operatories. Incumbents also provide clerical duties such as maintaining dental records, scheduling appointments, maintaining adequate supplies, and referring patients to other medical and dental assistance programs as well as assists with patient outreach to promote the dental program and help with patient care coordination.

The Clackamas Health Centers Division within the Department of Health, Housing and Human Services is a Federally Qualified Health Center offering full-service preventive dental care, as well as restorative care for qualified individuals. This team consists of skilled, professional staff that provide care for patients of any age from even before the first tooth. We are seeking individuals with a strong interest to learn and grow in this field.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
  • Any satisfactory combination of experience and training that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge and skills.
  • Successful completion of the Infection Control Exam within three months of hire following on-the-job training.
  • Licenses/Certifications (required at the time of hire): Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
  • OSHA compliant uniform attire is expected.

  • Must pass a criminal history check which may include national or state fingerprint records check
  • Driving may be necessary for County business. For position(s) with occasional/incidental driving, incumbents must possess a valid driver's license.   • Basic knowledge of sterilization and infection control equipment and practices.

TYPICAL TASKS
  • Sterilizes dental instruments and trays; assembles, wraps, decontaminates, and sterilizes trays of instruments, dental supplies, and equipment following proper standard precautions in decontamination and sterilization areas; monitors biological and chemical wash solutions to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and dental equipment.
  • Maintains inventory of equipment; restocks, labels, collects, and distributes instruments and trays; sorts and makes equipment and instruments available for use; inspects instruments, verifies that instruments function properly, and removes defective instruments.
  • Performs environmental maintenance duties; assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, clinic areas, and equipment storage; performs maintenance checks, documentation, and services on sterilization equipment; monitors issues with autoclave function or outcomes of biological testing.
  • Cleans and prepares operatory; assists with waterline testing, shocking, and maintenance of operatory equipment.
  • Screens phone calls, walk-in patients and referred patients for eligibility for services; schedules clients to appropriate dentists according to need and urgency; makes reminder phone calls; refers patients to medical and dental assistance programs or to area dentists.
  • Assists with patient outreach to promote the dental program and help with patient care coordination.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Working Knowledge of: Standard office procedures, techniques and equipment; basic math; English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation, both orally and in writing.

Some Knowledge of: Appropriate cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing techniques; OSHA standards for cleaning and sterilization procedures within a dental clinic; materials, instruments and tools used in the field of dentistry and oral hygiene; dental record documentation processes; HIPAA guidelines.

Skill to: Maintain and sterilize dental instruments and equipment; implement standard office procedures and use modern office equipment effectively; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, other health care professionals and patients; maintain strict patient confidentiality as outlined in HIPAA guidelines.

WORK SCHEDULE

This position works 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Friday. The days and hours for the position are Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday from 8am - 5pm and Wednesday from 10am - 7pm.

Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended. This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
