PAY AND BENEFITS

Annual Pay Range: $39,631.70 - $49,794.74

Hourly Pay Range: $19.053703 - $23.939781

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Clackamas County's Department of Finance is seeking to fill two Courier positions to deliver mail and materials to county departments.

Working within an established time schedule, the selected candidate will operate mail processing equipment and perform related clerical work within the mailroom. The Courier frequently transports confidential and sensitive items.

Competitive applicants will demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail, be customer service oriented, possess the ability to handle confidential materials, and safely and skillfully operate a van-type vehicle.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
  • The ability to perform the essential functions of the job which include strenuous physical labor, exposure to adverse weather conditions and hazardous locations.
  • Skill to operate assigned motor vehicles in a safe and efficient manner
  • Ability to read and interpret street maps
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with county employees, other agencies, and the public
  • Must pass a criminal history check which may include national or state fingerprint records check
  • Must pass a post-offer physical assessment; accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation

Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
  • Experience working as a Courier driver
  • At least one year of experience driving a car or van type vehicle
  • At least one year experience driving a van-type vehicle with sensitive, confidential or fragile items
  • Experience delivering mail for an organization with several separate building locations
  • Experience working with confidential information
  • Experience working on mail processing equipment
  • Experience sorting mail for a large organization
  • At least two years of experience working in a position that required good organizational skills
  • At least two years of experience working with detailed information and keeping track of it on a daily basis
  • At least two years of customer service experience
  • At least three years of experience working with the alphabet and numbers on a daily basis
  • Experience doing data entry in a computerized system

TYPICAL TASKS

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Manually and/or electronically gathers, sorts, processes and delivers mail, library books and materials, goods and supplies to County departments within an established time schedule; transports sensitive items such as police and mental health case records, public health patient specimens, deeds and other legal documents, payroll and other checks and library materials; may perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on sorting and processing machines.
  • May operate a van-type or similar motor vehicle under a wide variety of traffic and weather conditions between County buildings and other public facilities; cleans and fuels assigned vehicle as needed; arranges for regular maintenance with county Motor Pool.
  • Responds to inquiries from county staff regarding Courier functions and schedule; locate
  • Occasionally provide back up support and or short-term lobby desk coverage duties, which includes: receiving telephone calls or assisting visitors; meet and greet the general public and county employees; directs individuals to appropriate staff, county services, and local, state, and federal agencies; screen visitors and identify service animals or other possible safety and accommodation needs.
  • Occasional back up support or short-term coverage of the Facilities warehouse. This work includes: the staging, shipping, and receiving of materials and supplies; general organization of pallets and pallet racking; basic inventory tracking and management; and general housekeeping.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Working knowledge of: Designated route, including County departments, cities, streets, roads, and highways; location of City, County, State and Federal office buildings; general office practices and procedures; customer service techniques; United States Postal Service and commercial shipping regulations and requirements.

Skill to: Operate assigned motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner; read and interpret street maps; understand and follow written and oral instructions; work independently; establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, other agencies and the public; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties driving a motor vehicle may involve exposure to adverse weather conditions and traffic hazards.

Duties require frequent grasping, stepping up and down, twisting, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, push 75 pounds, and pull 100 pounds.


WORK SCHEDULE

This position is included in the County's alternate workweek program, working 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Thursday (Fridays off). Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended. This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
