PAY AND BENEFITS

Annual Pay Range: $54,882.10 - $69,154.62

Hourly Pay Range: $26.385626 - $33.247415

Salary offers will be made within the posted pay range and will be based on a candidate's experience (paid or unpaid) that is directly relevant to the position. An additional 5% premium pay is added for bilingual skills.

JOB DETAILS AND QUALIFICATIONS

The North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District has an opening for a bilingual (Spanish/English) Program & Special Event Coordinator.

Working independently and as part of the NCPRD team, this position will develop, schedule, organize, promote, and evaluate recreation programs for youth, adults, and other related special events in the District, focusing on Latinx offerings. This work involves program development and implementation, assessing needs, and working with District instructors and volunteers. To accomplish this work, the selected candidate must establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as recreation staff, volunteers, community partners, nonprofit organizations, vendors, sponsors, participants, and the public. This role will assist NCPRD in bringing diversity, equity, and inclusion to all programming and events.

The selected candidate will also provide translation support (written and verbal) to district staff and the community. The Program & Special Events Coordinator also serves as a liaison with program registration for Spanish speaking populations.

Required Minimum Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
  • A minimum of five (5) years of related experience providing customer service by meeting customer's needs and interacting with employees, vendors, and the public in a courteous and professional manner
  • Bilingual Spanish Language (Writing, Speaking, Reading) and demonstrated Cultural Competency
  • Demonstrated experience serving a diverse population and promoting equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with the ability to exercise good judgement, courtesy, and tact at all times
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision by prioritizing tasks, with exceptional organizational, record-keeping, problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and individual customer needs
  • Ability to work as a team member with a diverse group of people
  • Ability to work evening and weekend hours as needed
  • Must pass a criminal history check which may include national or state fingerprint records check

Preferred Special Qualifications/ Transferrable Skills:*
  • Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification
  • Experience working for an urban park, aquatic, or recreation organization
  • Experience working in recreation programming and facility planning
  • Experience working with other agencies, organizations, groups, contractors and volunteers
  • Experience leading the work of assigned staff or volunteers

TYPICAL TASKS

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Plan, prioritize, develop, implement, and promote recreation programs and events with an emphasis in Latinx offerings.
  • Originate event concepts, manage logistics, timelines and deadlines, arrange contracts and support services, maintain community partnerships, identify sources of volunteer participation and coordinate the public outreach for all Latinx special events.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness in meeting objectives
  • Ensure recreation programming and facility safety, operational efficiency, and compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Administer program and event budgets; monitor expenditures; prepare cost estimates; research and analyze financial and related data; and make budget recommendations.
  • Recruit and oversee work of contractors, instructors, part-time staff and volunteers.
  • Research industry trends, solutions and best practices.
  • Provide translation services from English to Spanish for written communications.
  • Serve as customer service liaison for the District with Spanish speaking citizens.
  • Assist with program creation, registration and facility bookings in CivicRec
  • Provide customer service support and utilizing good communication and excellent interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Gather and compile data and prepare reports on programming
  • Work with other District staff to develop/enhance cooperative opportunities for community members and identify and meet the needs of diverse populations, including cultural, ethnic, and language diversity.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Working knowledge of: principles and practices of public administration, including program planning and development; community resources; needs of individuals with limited economic and social
resources; budget/grant administration, participative management theories; research methods and techniques; interviewing techniques; record keeping techniques; basic math and statistics; English grammar and composition; basic supervisory techniques.

Skill to: Plan and coordinate recreation programs and events; prepare and deliver oral presentations before public groups; effectively coordinate, develop and utilize available staff, program and community resources; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; produce professional and effective written documents including emails, memos, recommendations, plans, and reports; relate to a wide range of clients, personnel, professional staff and community representatives; interpret policies and develop procedures; gather and evaluate data; direct staff in continuous efforts to improve quality, productivity and effectiveness; establish and maintain effective working relationships with community, private and government agencies, County employees and the public.


WORK SCHEDULE

This position works 40 hours during a standard workweek of Monday through Friday. Specific hours of work will be discussed with the candidate selected for this position at the time an offer of employment is extended. Evening and weekend work required.
This position is designated as on-site/in-person. It is expected that the selected candidate will perform duties at the specified on-site work location.
