Job Description This is a part-time, temporary assignment for approximately 3 months. 20-30 hours per week expected.  The Payroll Clerk performs administrative, accounting and clerical tasks related to the maintenance and processing of payroll transactions. Work includes, but is not limited to, researching and resolving payroll discrepancies for union payrolls and tax filings, compilation of payroll data (e.g., hours worked, taxes, insurance, union dues to be withheld) from timesheets and other records, preparing employee wage earning statements, checks and EFTs, submitting organization tax liabilities, and preparing statements for 3rd party retirement liabilities. At the direction of the Sr. Payroll Manager the Payroll Clerk may interact with internal and external contact with customers and regulatory agencies to resolve payroll discrepancies and document findings and outcomes. The Payroll Clerk also works with and supports the Payroll Manager and Payroll Team in ensuring conformity with corporate practices, policies and procedures related to payroll and to resolve payroll issues internally and externally. Key Responsibilities Perform the routine and non-routine daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual processes (e.g., weekly payroll process, filing, ACH file transmission, etc.); ensure accuracy and integrity of payroll process and ensure proper internal controls are in place and operating effectively in all facets of payroll operations Respond to information requests from internal and external customers and answer employee questions about payroll related matters. Key in payroll entries into system as necessary in resolving payrolls. Perform and/or assist in the preparation for the organization’s external reporting (e.g., periodic tax deposits, employee wage history reports, W-2s). Coordinate with the HR department to ensure correct employee data is entered into Lawson and SAP. Resolve payroll discrepancies with HRIS and payroll. Provide administrative assistance to the payroll department. Work on special projects and other duties as required. The Kennedy Center Production Operations Department seeks a technician with a thorough working knowledge in all areas of technical theatrical production.  The position is Assistant Head of the Electrics Department, Opera House.  Applicant must have a minimum of five years’ experience as a theatrical electrician with a solid working knowledge in all facets of mounting productions with advanced knowledge in layout and installation theatrical lighting plots and stage electrics for theatrical presentations.  Basic computer skills enabling clear communications along with comprehensive skills in Lightwright software for preparing paperwork for productions are a must. Applicant must also be a competent programmer on ETC “Eos” based family of lighting consoles.  Applicant must have working knowledge of modern stage technology and procedures.  Applicant must be familiar with the safe working procedures of a stage and its related tools and equipment as well as safe working procedures in a production environment.  This position is one of the “staff” recognized positions in the Opera House as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between The Kennedy Center and I.A.T.S.E. local #22.  This position is a full time, hourly position with benefits, vacation pay, and sick leave. Key Responsibilities As the Assistant Head of the JFKC Opera House Electrics Department, individual will work as a team member of the minimum basic crew as well as the Assistant Head of the Electric Department, loading in, setting up, rehearsing, lighting programming, running performances, taking down and loading out productions.  Individual will need to act as an over all leader to any over-hire employee’s referred to work in the Opera House by I.A.T.S.E. local #22.  Assistant Head Electrician will work with Kennedy Center Management, as well as visiting “Road Crews” to safely and efficiently plan and schedule pertinent aspects to mount productions presented or visiting the Kennedy Center Opera House. The Assistant Head Electrician will perform maintenance on theatrical systems and equipment that pertain to the electrical systems in the Opera House. Technician will perform other work as assigned and defined in the CBA. Other duties as assigned.  Key Qualifications A minimum of 5 years’ professional experience in Technical Theater. Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre; advanced degree preferred. The applicant must possess excellent skill levels in set up and operation of theatrical equipment enabling smooth running performances.  Applicant must be able to work well with others, and be able to prioritize in a high pressure environment.  Applicant must have experience working with union crews. Flexibility, the ability to work well under pressure, and the ability to prioritize in a multi-task environment are required. Equally important is the ability to translate the financial concerns of the Kennedy Center while ensuring the successful maintaining and acquisition of theatrical equipment. Additional Information Frequent lifting and moving of heavy yet fragile equipment.   Head Electrician must be able to work odd hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and frequent work beyond 40 hours per week.  Must be able to spend 10 hours a day standing and walking. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person, on wireless communication systems and on the telephone.  The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle, or feel in order to operate computer controlled theatrical equipment, climbing ladders, use of hand tools, power tools, and other essential tasks required in stagecraft.  The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms.  This position frequently lifts carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to and over 50 pounds. The sound and light level in the work environment varies widely from high to low intensity. Loud noises include power tools, sound reinforcement, equipment testing, as well as large orchestras, and loud musical groups. Working on elevated platforms, in aerial lifts, and in lighting positions in high places, will be required.

Job Description The Director of Revenue Accounting and Special Projects is responsible for recording and reconciling all areas of the Center’s contribution and grant revenue, endowment activity, box office sales and other earned revenues, auxiliary services, investments, fixed assets and debt. The individual will lead a team of accountants to record the revenues of the Kennedy Center (including affiliated/related entities) and other financial activity in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and other regulatory requirements as applicable to facilitate the organization’s internal and external reporting needs. The Director of Revenue Accounting and Special Projects will support the preparation of the organization’s audited financial statements; the schedule of expenditures of Federal Awards; Forms 990 and 990T; financial reports to the Board of Trustees, donors or grantors; and periodic ad hoc reporting, research, and analysis for internal and external stakeholders. The individual will assist the Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Accounting with the development of and conformity with corporate practices, policies and procedures in an effort to promote greater efficacy and transparency around the Center’s revenues. This position will oversee the work of up to five direct reports and coordinate with others on the Finance Team in fulfillment of this key accounting function.  Additionally, the Director of Revenue Accounting and Special Projects will frequently collaborate and communicate with others outside the Finance Department. Key Responsibilities Oversee and manage the staff responsible for the Center’s contribution and box office accounting and reconciliation processes. Supervise the regular journal transfer from Tessitura of contribution and box office information into the Finance ERP.  Ensure proper controls are in place and operating effectively to record these revenues in compliance with GAAP and to meet management’s internal and external reporting needs.  Collect and organize documentation in support of the proper accounting for transactions.  Resolve all erroneous entries, open items, and reconciliation issues with relevant staff from the Development department in a timely manner, preferably within 30 days. Review and post regular journal entries and supervise preparation of staff reconciliations as a part of the monthly closing procedures. Oversee the monthly accounting of endowment and board designated funds including additions, spend, and changes in the share of endowment investment asset market values. Support administration of the spending policy in keeping with the Investment Policy Statement and Board action. Effectively and efficiently account for the investments of the endowment with external servicer providers, fiduciaries, and/or endowment software.  When required, review new endowment agreements for language, payment schedules, proposed restrictions, and feasibility issues. Track cash due to and from the endowment, and project changes in months ahead.  Perform routine analysis, including calculations, budgets, and projections. Work with programmers to identify activities that meet restricted revenue purposes. Oversee federal and private grant accounting and reporting function staffed by the Senior Grants Accounting Manager who review charges against the grant for allowable and unallowable costs, track the Federal source for allowable costs, work with Programming and Development personnel during pre-Award, Award, Implementation, and Close out phases of the Grant Cycle, maintain the organization’s Grants Administration Architecture (SAM, G5, Grants.gov, etc.), and lead the institution’s annual Indirect Cost Recovery Rate negotiation process. Oversee compliance with the Center’s capitalization policy, maintenance of fixed asset and depreciation subsidiary ledgers, evaluation of repairs and maintenance expense, and support FP&A’s efforts to create and stand up a capital budget.  Manage debt activity and amortization schedules, to include recording all related financial transactions and preparing financial reports. Ensure compliance with all debt related reporting requirements and covenants. Manage compliance with the Treasury Collateral Management and Monitoring regulations and reporting requirements. Lead the Revenues and Special Projects team with and contribute to the annual financial statement preparation and audit, the uniform guidance audit (compliance with Federal regulations), and preparation of the Center’s and its affiliates’ Forms 990 and 990T; financial reports to management, the Board of Trustees, donors or grantors; and periodic ad hoc reporting, research, and analysis for internal and external stakeholders. Develop revenue recognition and capitalization policies and procedures and train staff on the above functions as needed. Determine the most optimal methods and procedures on new assignments and coordinate the work of senior accountants or staff accountants as directed by Finance leadership. Other duties as assigned. Key Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or an active CPA license is required. Experience: At least 10 years of private or 5 – 7 years of public not-for-profit accounting experience with 5 – 10 years of progressive experience with contributions, endowments, grant compliance, restricted net assets, and tax preparation required.  Performing arts industry experience is a plus. Critical skills: Strong Excel and other Microsoft Office/Teams experience. Good written-oral communication and interpersonal skills; proficiency in use of general ledger applications. This position is located at the Kennedy Center in the District of Columbia.  The Associate General Counsel will serve as the primary subject-matter expert in the areas of labor and employment law and is responsible for assisting and supporting the General Counsel, appropriate Kennedy Center staff, and Kennedy Center departments and affiliates, including the National Symphony Orchestra and the Washington National Opera with the handling and management all employment matters related to the Kennedy Center and other legal matters, including aspects of labor law, as assigned by the General Counsel.  Key Responsibilities LEGAL  Providing subject-matter expertise on employment matters including issues related to all types of discrimination, harassment, wrongful discharge, employment contracts, independent contractor analysis, disabilities and related accommodations, leaves of absence, (including Family Medical Leave Act, and other federal/local laws), internal investigations, human resource issues, employee benefits and ERISA benefit plans, workplace safety, workers’ compensation, work-related immigration matters, matters intersecting with the EEO and the MSPB or similar bodies, etc..  Providing guidance on labor matters including advising the Kennedy Center on the terms of various collective bargaining agreements and developing strategies on labor matters and matters intersecting with the NLRB or similar body.  Independently handling various aspects of employment-related litigation such as motions, hearings, arbitrations, mediations and depositions, developing litigation strategy, preparing trial material and handling or assisting on pre-trial, trial, and post-trial proceedings. Researching, synthesizing, and drafting legal filings related to labor and employment matters.  Proactively remaining up-to-date and highly competent in all areas of law relating to federal agency management as it relates to labor and employment law and other areas law pertinent to the duties outlined herein and as assigned by the General Counsel.  Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various agreements and contracts.  Other employment matters as assigned by the General Counsel.  POLICY  Providing expert guidance for Kennedy Center staff and affiliates on substantive and complex legal and policy issues related to the Kennedy Center’s activities based on in-depth research and consultation/coordination with appropriate staff and outside contacts with minimal supervision.  Independently assessing risk areas such as legal risk, institutional risk, compliance risk, and reputational risk and effectively strategizing with critical stakeholders in order to mitigate and minimize exposure.  Serving on internal administrative committees and ad-hoc groups as needed and proactively developing educational tools such as primers and presentations to help socialize and educate client offices on various aspects of labor and employment law or other areas that include legal inflection points.  Serving as a critical point of contact and thought partner for the Office of Human Resources to advise and legally opine on matters as needed.  GENERAL  Other matters as assigned by the General Counsel.  Independently drafting, reviewing and negotiating all types of agreements, including donor agreements, independent contractor agreements, venue agreements, construction agreements, IT agreements, hotel agreements, bequests, commercial leases, partnership agreements, and other commercial agreements.  Proactively providing creative and innovative recommendations on administrative and organizational processes associated with the operational efficiency and effectiveness of OGC.  Ensuring Kennedy Center compliance with a range of federal administrative law reporting requirements appropriate following-up as necessary. Key Qualifications Minimum 6 years as a practicing attorney dealing with legal issues in related areas with a specific concentration and emphasis in employment law and client counseling.  Labor law experience highly preferred.  Member in good standing of the bar of the District of Columbia or other state.  Must possess a JD from a law school accredited by the ABA. Work effectively and efficiently in a sensitive and fast-paced environment.  Excellent legal research and analytical skills; Excellent communication skills (written and oral).  Proactively engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders and Kennedy Center staff/officials, some who are attorneys and many that are not.  Advance legal components of various matters involving the Kennedy Center by independently recognizing subtle legal inflection points in order to develop propositional solutions-oriented recommendations with minimal supervision by the General Counsel.  Expeditiously recognize complex and nuanced legal issues, weigh and evaluate complicated information, and utilize both facts and law in developing legal arguments and alternative positions.  Independently multi-task and balance competing priorities in a highly organized manner.  Ability to synthesize several collective bargaining agreements of varying complexity and quickly and effectively provide counsel on the nuances and distinctions of each one as well as understand the overarching collective bargaining landscape with institutional stability, preservation and advancement in mind.  Proactively collaborate with colleagues at various staff levels as well as outside counsel and consultants.  Private law firm and non-profit legal experience highly desired.  Candidate must be local or willing to relocate to the DMV area. Operations & Maintenance Facility Services Safety & Security Project Management The Facility Operations Manager will be responsible for select facility-related operations and contracted services. Job Description The Senior Accountant, Federal Appropriations is primarily responsible for facilitating and marshalling all necessary accounting and required procedures for transactions relating to the Kennedy Center’s use of Federal Appropriations.  These include reviewing and processing of Federal requisitions, purchase orders, fund obligations (de-obligations), invoicing and payments while adhering to the Center’s internal policies, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), and other Federal agencies’ requirements.  The Sr. Accountant is responsible for accurate and timely records keeping, accounting entries, reconciliations, and relevant financial reporting of Federal transactions utilizing the Center’s accounting system and database (LAWSON and KCMaster).  The position serves as the primary point-of-contact with the General Services Administration (GSA) for processing of Federal invoices and payments (Accounts Payable and Federal payroll) and other Federal agencies for reporting requirements. The Sr. Accountant shall foster collaborative working relationships and maintain professional, effective, and timely communications with internal customers (KC management, Facilities, Contracting, and Finance) and external customers (GSA). Key Responsibilities Maintain Federal financial records: Coordinate accounts payable input of financial information into Lawson and with any third party service provider for the recording and processing of Federal financial transactions. Review all federal transactions entered into Lawson. Review payroll reports provided by any third party service provider for completeness and accuracy and record via GL entry into the accounting system. Monthly reconciliation of the purchasing card program activity to cardholder Excel spreadsheets to ensure transactions are accounted for appropriately. Work with cardholders to resolve vendor disputes. Analyze and review Federal financial documents: Review accounting data in order to determine that items are properly coded, authorized, allowable, and reasonable. Determine that funds are available before submitting requisitions for funds certification. Month/Year -end financial reporting, reconciliation, and analysis: (a) perform multiple reconciliations between the general ledger and activity management systems as well as detailed reconciliations of any third party service provider  reports to Lawson records by fund. (b) Work with Contracting and other program office staff to ensure that the year-end close out activities are completed and all obligations are processed prior to year-end. About The National Symphony Orchestra The National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) enjoys international renown as one of America’s finest professional orchestras. Job Description The Orchestra Personnel Manager (OPM) will support the Director of Orchestra Personnel in providing coverage of all National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) rehearsals and concerts, administration and coordination of auditions, communication of NSO policy and other information to the musicians, and assisting musicians with their questions and concerns.  Key Responsibilities Manages string rotation with NSO rotation captains, and manages revolving string and front stand seating. Coordinates wind and brass castings with principal players. Keeps leave and attendance records. Using this information, creates seating charts and distributes them to orchestra and NSO staff.   Assists OPM at NSO services, and covers services when OPM is not present. This includes taking attendance, making announcements, checking in with conductor, starting service at proper time, calling intermission, cutting off service if necessary, and solving any immediate personnel problems.  Posts call sheets, seating charts, and other important information on musicians’ portal and on backstage bulletin board.  Coordinates flow of audition information, receiving and entering resumes, and mailing repertoire and other information to all audition candidates. The senior financial analyst will have strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills and be able to present financial information and models in a visually concise, accurate and easily comprehensible manner. This position will be integral in evaluating the revenue and expenses of the Center to help identify operational efficiencies and revenue growth opportunities while keeping the Center’s mission and values at the forefront. Key Responsibilities Work directly with program stakeholders including Finance and business leaders to prepare and analyze annual budgets and projections through synthesizing both programmatic and financial information. Perform analysis to provide data-driven products to inform business decision-making. Analyze current year budgets and projections in comparison to actual revenues and expenses and work with departments across the center to identify areas of concern and facilitate future recommended projection changes. Review and investigate the company’s accounting transactions to improve data accuracy ensuring compliance with financial guidelines, company policies, and relevant legal regulations. Assist with budgeting and monthly close processes. Prepare and review financial reports, validate financials, organize financial presentations, and create commentary around monthly performance. Assist with monthly financial uploads and data extracts to perform the requisite analysis. Develop reporting dashboards and executive level management information summarizing the Center’s financial position, risks and opportunities. Forecast monthly, quarterly, biannual or annual financial transactions and provide analytical review, feedback, and recommendations to management. Perform ad hoc analysis to understand variances and improve forecasting methods. Collaborate with colleagues on achieving company’s long-term financial planning objectives by developing financial models and cost projections. Create and maintain long-term forecasts to support key financial decisions. Prepare and coordinate both internal and external financial reports for distribution to department directors, senior leadership, affiliate organizations, and members of the board to effectively communicate company's strategy and performance. Participate on system implementation projects as directed by leadership and train and mentor junior analyst and other staff on best financial practices. Maintain confidentiality of financial information, or any other tasks assigned by the organization. Works independently proposing resolutions to discrepancies and other issues. Job Description Under the supervision of the Director of Accounting Operations, and Senior Accounting personnel, the General Accountant will support time-sensitive processes in key areas of the Center’s operations. The General Accountant will regularly record, analyze, and reconcile transactions for assigned business operations in collaboration with internal departments. The General Accountant will also assist in the regular preparation of financial analyses and reconciliations in support of reporting to internal and external users including the CFO, the President, Senior Vice Presidents, Committees of the Board, vendors, and the independent auditors. The Kennedy Center’s performance and events business cycle occurs weekly which drives the work efforts of this position. Accounting closes occurs monthly within 10 to 15 business days after the end of the period (last Sunday of the month closest to the 30th). This position’s work efforts, as a result, will also support closing the fiscal period. Key Responsibilities Transaction accounting – Enter daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and/or annual transaction data into the accounting system. Verify financial data and supporting documents received for accuracy; prepare and enter general ledger journals for assigned areas; and interact with program personnel and other finance team members to resolve questions and obtain revisions to data provided, as necessary. Assigned areas may include but are not limited to cash transactions, fixed assets; federal, performance and external event expense settlements; and events business cycle transactions (credit card payments, KC Internal Purchase Orders (KCIPO) and other receivables/revenues). Month-/Year-end reconciliation tasks Prepare reconciliations between the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, including bank reconciliations, and resolve reconciling items with research or discussion with program or team members.
