Job Description

California State University San Marcos

Dean of the College of Education, Health & Human Services

San Marcos, California

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM), one of the newest campuses within a 23-campus system, seeks an inspiring and innovative leader to serve as Dean of the College of Education, Health & Human Services (CEHHS). Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and working in collaboration with faculty, students, and staff, the Dean will serve as a unifying leader in strategically guiding the college forward during a critical period of growth.

CSUSM is a comprehensive public university that offers rigorous undergraduate and graduate programs distinguished by exemplary teaching, innovative curricula, and application of new technologies. CSUSM grounds its mission in the public trust, alignment with regional needs, and sustained enrichment of the intellectual, civic, economic, and cultural life of the region and state. The region is rapidly growing and the University is expanding and thriving with the pioneering spirit of a relatively young campus under the strategic leadership of President Karen Haynes.

CEHHS, home to the Schools of Education, Nursing, and Health Sciences and Human Services, is committed to an ethos of passion, innovation, and excellence. Through hands-on learning opportunities, CEHHS develops critical thinkers and creative problem solvers who share a mission to serve the public good. CEHHS students are actively involved in serving the surrounding community and contributing to the health and development of the northern San Diego County region. Students graduate from CEHHS as professional and ethical citizens who are well prepared to address society's 21st century challenges and opportunities.

The next Dean will play a key role in working with faculty, staff, and students to develop the integrated aspirations for CEHHS, as well as effectively advocating internally and externally for the College to ensure that its broad impact and potential are realized. To do so successfully, the Dean will address the following set of key opportunities and challenges:

  • Develop a cohesive vision to lead the College to the next level of success
  • Provide transparent financial leadership within the College and maximize resources
  • Advance the University's goals in the areas of educational equity, diversity, and inclusive excellence
  • Enhance the collaborative community within the College, across the University and in the region
