An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for installing, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance for plumbing equipment. Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained. Examples of Duties This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work. Maintains supply and discharge piping systems by opening clogged buildings and systems piping and replacing diaphragms. Coordinates materials and supplies for larger projects. Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on gas, vacuum, air, chilled, steam, and hot water lines. Detects the location of gas leaks and repairs accordingly. Installs and maintains sump pumps. Repairs and changes out air compressors, booster pumps, and vacuum pumps. Repairs and replaces sanitary and storm sewer lines and plumbing fixtures including backflow preventers. Provides support to other trades and contractors. Performs related duties as assigned. Completes work orders as assigned, including accurate and timely entries into the department’s work order management system. Conducts preventative maintenance/safety inspections and repairs. Maintains and repairs power tools and equipment, as assigned. Performs preventative maintenance on all equipment that is not under contract with the carrier. Participates in a 24/7 on-call rotation.
