Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities

Proactively manage portfolio/book of business; including being informed about loss activity and trends on the market segment book of business. Assure that policies accounts are underwritten according to market segment strategies and guidelines. Collaborate with the Regional Vice President in development of market segment strategy - coordinates strategy development with appropriate Home Office Vice President. Develop and implement long and short term territorial plans in order to achieve budget objectives. Identify and capture new business opportunities and effectively cross sell Bond market segment, and Travelers products/businesses. Foster the highest level of customer service. Develop and maintain agent, broker and client relationships to support implementation of strategy. Anticipate resource needs, sets priorities and allocates financial and human resources in support of strategy. People Development: Attract and retain highly skilled people. Set and demonstrate high standards of performance, evaluate performance effectively, and provide timely candid feedback. Make compensation decisions with Regional Vice President Drive strategy throughout the Managers territory - ensure consistent, timely and effective implementation of market segment strategy. Translate strategic goals into specific business plans. Tailor macro strategy to fit local business conditions. Monitor performance and make timely adjustments to achieve objectives and close gaps.

Job Summary

The Managing Director is responsible for the underwriting, development and leadership of a regional Management Liability/Fidelity portfolio of Bank & Diversified FI, Asset Management and Insurance Company business. This position is responsible for leading a team of underwriters that consistently strives to achieve budgeted financial results (premium, loss ratio, retention, commissions, pricing, new business, premium collection, and expense management) through execution of business segment strategies. This role interacts and collaborates with a team of colleagues and other critical internal/external business partners to leverage opportunities and profitably manage the portfolio.  The Managing Director is responsible for the successful development and management of agency/broker relationships.

Responsibilities Include:
Managing and developing a complex and diverse portfolio of high quality accounts across the West region
Leading a team of underwriters toward successful achievement of financial objectives
Developing and managing strong, productive and profitable agency/broker/account relationships
Mentoring, training, and development of staff
Strategic planning and execution of a territorial business development plan

Minimum Qualifications

7 years of Management Liability/Financial Institutions underwriting experience

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge

7 – 10 years of Management Liability/Financial Institutions underwriting experience
Demonstrated leadership or managerial roles of increasing responsibility.
Experience leading remote employees preferred
Proven ability to successfully underwrite and achieve financial objectives
Advanced analytical and underwriting skills with demonstrated experience handing small to large and complex Financial Institutions accounts
Demonstrated ability to successfully develop and maintain highly productive agency/broker relationships 
Excellent Communicator with strong negotiation skills

Preferred Qualifications

Four year college degree (Finance, Insurance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics) preferred

MBA or other advanced industry designations (CPCU/RPLU) preferred 

Physical Requirements

Operates standard office equipment. Requires extended periods of computer use. Requires extended periods of sitting.
