The Monterey County, Information Technology Department (ITD) consists of six (6) operational Divisions: Administration; Applications; Customer Support; Enterprise Operations; Infrastructure; and Security. ITD resources are operated and maintained in a manner that supports high availability for utilization and minimizes the risk of business interruption. ITD's focus is on developing a sustainable, customer focused environment to enhance and improve the quality of technology services used by County departments for the benefit of all Monterey County residents, businesses, and visitors.

The Applications Division of ITD seeks a Database Administrator I/II to work closely with the Senior Database Administrator to manage the County's development and production environments, monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and work with Software Programmers in writing and tuning code to ensure efficient use of database technology. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable of relational database management systems, database access and security practices, as well as the use of database indexes and SQL programming languages. The Database Administrator II will also have working knowledge of database administration methodologies, and implementation strategies to keep the environments aligned with organizational security directives. The ideal candidate will have experience with native database management tools such as SQL Server Management Studio or Oracle Enterprise Manager, with some education or training in dealing with highly available environments and scalability issues, enjoys solving problems, and is comfortable working in a team environment.
