Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno has an amazing opportunity for an experienced Communications Officer for our newly developed "Nevada Lithium Batteries and Other EV Materials Loop" Regional Technology and Innovation Hub ("Nevada Tech Hub"). Reporting to the Regional Innovation Officer (RIO), this position has an integral role in the success of the Nevada Tech Hub to advance both the Tech Hub and the University's strategic priorities. The Tech Hub Communications Officer will be in recurring communication with national, regional and local media; serve as a spokesperson for Nevada Tech Hub; update the Nevada Tech Hub website; provide issue management support; and direct and implement a social media strategy. Through these efforts, the Tech Hub Communications Officer also provides communication counsel and media interview coaching to the RIO and the others in the Nevada Tech Hub team. The Communications Officer works closely with and follows the direction set by the University's Office of Marketing and Communication to align with the overall strategy, priorities and brand standards of the University. The position functions as a partnership between the Nevada Tech Hub and the Office of Marketing and Communications, but reports directly to RIO.
Required Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and four years of related professional work experience; OR a Master's Degree and two years of related professional work experience.
Related Experience: Strategic media and/or public relations programming and implementation.

Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno has an amazing opportunity for an experienced Communications Officer for our newly developed "Nevada Lithium Batteries and Other EV Materials Loop" Regional Technology and Innovation Hub ("Nevada Tech Hub"). Reporting to the Regional Innovation Officer (RIO), this position has an integral role in the success of the Nevada Tech Hub to advance both the Tech Hub and the University's strategic priorities. The Tech Hub Communications Officer will be in recurring communication with national, regional and local media; serve as a spokesperson for Nevada Tech Hub; update the Nevada Tech Hub website; provide issue management support; and direct and implement a social media strategy. Through these efforts, the Tech Hub Communications Officer also provides communication counsel and media interview coaching to the RIO and the others in the Nevada Tech Hub team. The Communications Officer works closely with and follows the direction set by the University's Office of Marketing and Communication to align with the overall strategy, priorities and brand standards of the University. The position functions as a partnership between the Nevada Tech Hub and the Office of Marketing and Communications, but reports directly to RIO.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
In alliance with the Salk CC Director, develop, promote, and execute an integrated strategic plan and scientific vision to enhance program productivity and scientific collaborations.
Direct and manage all aspects of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG).
Manage CC activities: oversee/manage monthly CC leadership and quarterly research program meetings (agendas and slides), weekly/monthly seminar series, special cancer-related symposia.
Coordinate with institutional leaders and CC leadership to co-manage shared resources, education outreach, diversity efforts, and grant management.
Responsible for the administrative infrastructure, preparation, submission, and management of the NCI CCSG and assist the Salk CC Director with scientific and technical writing for the CCSG Research Plan and related submissions, including non-competing continuation and renewal submissions. Lead and direct activities and team members to deliver on requirements and key deliverables of the CCSG submissions.
Plan and direct the NCI CCSG site visit. As part of the CCSG evaluation, facilitates the preparation of the briefing material for the site visitors.
Serve as the primary administrative liaison to the NCI Office of Cancer Centers for all Salk CC CCSG functions.
Coordinate CCSG Programs, aiding Program Leaders in program development, structure, and membership. Lead regular meetings among Salk CC leadership/members to communicate administrative and scientific developments. Partner with Institute leaders in support of cancer center goals and initiatives.
Serve as the CCSG liaison with CC Program Leaders, faculty, institutional officials in Research Administration, Grants, Events, and Research Accounting to provide comprehensive management and budgetary monitoring for all aspects of the CCSG.
Provide financial oversight, analysis, and planning for the CCSG-supported shared resources as a member of the Shared Resource Management team. Direct the preparation of the annual CCSG budgets in consultation with the CCSG PI and Shared Resource Management team.
Initiate and nurture critical partnerships throughout the Salk CC research enterprise and with external stakeholders. Enhance inter-institutional interactions and corporate engagement.
Collaborate with the Salk Institute Grants office to provide expertise and assistance in developing successful multi-investigator, large-scale grant submissions that are critical to the mission of the CC (e.g., P01s, T32s, U54s, P30 supplements, etc.). Identify additional cancer-related funding opportunities outside of the NCI to enable competitive research.
Assist the Salk CC Director in activities related to the Executive Committee and External Advisory Board (EAB). Create and implement new programs, initiatives, and policies. Plan and direct annual CC EAB visits. Engage and report to Executive Committee and EAB on progress and challenges.
Manage and oversee the CCSG Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (and related community education outreach activities) and Plan to Enhance Diversity components. In collaboration with the Deputy Director for Education and Training and Deputy Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Salk Institute DEI office, co-manage and direct team members in the coordination of cancer research training and education and diversity efforts.
Participate in the creation of a cancer trainees database and longitudinal tracking in collaboration with Salk Institute Postdoctoral Office.
Attend AACI and ACCA/CCAF meetings as the institutional representative for the CCSG and provide feedback to the Executive Committee regarding new policies and/or procedures resulting from data collected at the meetings.
Oversee communication strategies and marketing efforts in collaboration with Salk Communications aimed at increasing the visibility of Salk CC. Assist in the creation and management of an internal Salk CC website and cancer-related newsletter.
Assist CC Director in writing/editing scientific data for other various submissions and presentations.
Work with Salk Institute External Relations, CC faculty, and Salk Communications to support philanthropic efforts and develop program content for events and brochures (e.g., Conquering Cancer Initiative (CCI) Summit, CCI lunch series, specific CCI events).

What We Can Offer
The expected pay range for this position is $120,000 to $170,000 annually. Salk Institute provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the institute reasonably expects to pay for a position. Manage and oversee the CCSG Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination (and related community education outreach activities) and Plan to Enhance Diversity components. In collaboration with the Deputy Director for Education and Training and Deputy Director for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and Salk Institute DEI office, co-manage and direct team members in the coordination of cancer research training and education and diversity efforts.
Participate in the creation of a cancer trainees database and longitudinal tracking in collaboration with Salk Institute Postdoctoral Office.
Attend AACI and ACCA/CCAF meetings as the institutional representative for the CCSG and provide feedback to the Executive Committee regarding new policies and/or procedures resulting from data collected at the meetings.
Oversee communication strategies and marketing efforts in collaboration with Salk Communications aimed at increasing the visibility of Salk CC. Assist in the creation and management of an internal Salk CC website and cancer-related newsletter.
Assist CC Director in writing/editing scientific data for other various submissions and presentations.
Work with Salk Institute External Relations, CC faculty, and Salk Communications to support philanthropic efforts and develop program content for events and brochures (e.g., Conquering Cancer Initiative (CCI) Summit, CCI lunch series, specific CCI events).
Provide updated strategic plan for presentation to CCI Advisory Committee; serve as lead with coordinating the Bench to Bedside to Bench Seminar series launched by the CCI.

The Senior Communications Specialist is a marketing and communications generalist responsible for creating internal and external messaging to trustees, administration, staff, faculty, students, community and professional groups coinciding with the strategic goals of the department. Responsibilities include work in the areas of communications, media relations, public relations, marketing and advertising in the form of strategic planning, benchmarking analysis and reports, website development, social media, media relations preparation, advertising, presentations, e-newsletters, and events. Website Management: manage existing content, create new pages, and develop information on a regular basis for several websites, including Sustainability, Penn Connects, and FRES websites. Strategic Planning: Draft or update long-term marketing communications plans that define goals, audiences, tactics and tools and provide direction for activity in several topic areas, including Penn Sustainability, campus development, and FRES initiatives. Draft or update marketing communications plans for specific campaigns of limited duration, with same tactics and evaluation. Assist with oversight of related work with Communications Coordinator.

Benchmarking: Monitor metrics on websites, social media, newsletters and advertising. Use data to inform communications, including web and social media analytics, public relations outreach, events, and advertising reach. Provide reports to other FRES departments as needed.
Advertising: Direct print and digital advertising campaigns. Meet with ad sales representatives in regional marketplace to research offerings and build relationships. Make recommendations on ad contracts. Update advertising messages based on target audience and time of year. Manage budget/invoices/payments with property management firm. Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Associate Director for Slug Support, the Slug Support Case Manager for Graduate Students serves as the nexus of information and integration for the campus' response to graduate students and international students experiencing varying degrees of need and/or distress. The incumbent is readily accessible to students, staff, faculty, parents, and family members (when applicable) who are concerned about a distressed student. The Slug Support Case Manager for Graduate Students works closely with key offices to identify and intervene as early as possible with graduate students potentially experiencing basic need insecurities, distress, or other challenges who would benefit from advocacy and support services.
The Slug Support Case Manager for Graduate Students provides information and training for the Graduate Division staff and community, including consulting about graduate students who may need support as well as providing general information about Slug Support during Orientation and other key events. The incumbent works directly with students referred by the Graduate Division to help resolve complex situations and advocate on their behalf, fielding calls, emails, and referrals, and coordinates responses and services for individual students. Additionally, the incumbent researches national best practices and participates on various "students of concern" committees. The Slug Support Case Manager for Graduate students also supports the activities, programs, and services associated with the functions of the Dean of Students office.

Budgeted Salary: $66,900 - $75,000 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. 70% - Student Advocacy and Coordination of Responses to Students in Distress
• Provides direct student support in meeting with students to assess and provide assistance regarding distressing and sensitive situations they may be navigating. • Manages graduate and international students of concern cases that require gathering information, developing recommendations for response and taking the initiative to mobilize appropriate responses and/or services. • Provides information to the student and student's family (as appropriate) and conveys information to other units including Counseling and Psychological Services, Academic Advisers, • Graduate departments, International Student & Scholar Services, Faculty, Residential Services, Resource Centers, Campus Police, and other campus entities, ensuring that appropriate resources are available and post-intervention strategies are mobilized on behalf of the student and the campus community. • Provides administrative interface, coordinating with various campus partners to ensure coherent integration of campus and community resources for individual students who face challenges with academic, health, conduct, substance abuse, financial, and social issues.
15% - Distress Student Consultation
• In consultation and collaboration with units across the University, serves as a point of contact for members of the campus community who are concerned about a graduate or international student. • Consults with other departments on student cases. • Connects students to resources and offices across campus such as Counseling and Psychological Services, Academic Advising, and Residential Life, among others, develop action plans, and follow up with students, staff, and faculty as appropriate. • Serves as an active member of the UC System-wide Case Management Team as well as the Systemwide Graduate Student Case Management team. • Responds to inquiries about distressed students from faculty, staff, students, and parents/family members. • Provides information and resources to appropriate campus services. • Activates the Slug Support team for high-level and high-risk incidents as needed. • Provides information and training for the Graduate, department staff, and community, including consulting about students who may need support as well as providing general information about Slug Support during Orientation and other key events. • Works directly with students referred by the Graduate Division to help resolve complex situations and advocate on their behalf.
10% - Partnership Building
• Develops and fosters relationships with key campus partners such as the International Student & Scholar Services, the graduate division, graduate departments, and the Graduate Student Association to better serve graduate students and develop best practices for supporting their unique needs. • Serves as a member of the Graduate Student of Concern working group to discuss specific students of concern and larger issues impacting the graduate student community, and to develop resources and solutions.
5% - Outreach and Education
• Works collaboratively with Counseling and Psychological Services and other campus units and departments on the provision of campus-wide training and programs as well as publications regarding responding to graduate students in distress or who are experiencing basic need insecurities. • Develops and delivers specialized curriculum and training programs as requested by campus departments regarding responding to students in distress, and educational workshops about Dean of Students services and programs. • Works with a broad cross-section of campus departments (e.g., Orientation Programs, Wellness Programs, Disability Resource Centers, Resource Centers, Counseling and Psychological Services, Graduate Departments, and Residential Services to develop and implement marketing campaigns for the campus's student mental health messages and information, with particular attention to educating students on their role in the well-being of fellow students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. • Demonstrated experience in crisis management, crisis intervention, and case management with college students and emerging adults. • Broad knowledge of health care, mental health care, crisis management, and services. JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Associate Director for Slug Support, the Slug Support Case Manager for Graduate Students serves as the nexus of information and integration for the campus' response to graduate students and international students experiencing varying degrees of need and/or distress. The incumbent is readily accessible to students, staff, faculty, parents, and family members (when applicable) who are concerned about a distressed student. The Slug Support Case Manager for Graduate Students works closely with key offices to identify and intervene as early as possible with graduate students potentially experiencing basic need insecurities, distress, or other challenges who would benefit from advocacy and support services.
The Slug Support Case Manager for Graduate Students provides information and training for the Graduate Division staff and community, including consulting about graduate students who may need support as well as providing general information about Slug Support during Orientation and other key events. The incumbent works directly with students referred by the Graduate Division to help resolve complex situations and advocate on their behalf, fielding calls, emails, and referrals, and coordinates responses and services for individual students. Additionally, the incumbent researches national best practices and participates on various "students of concern" committees. The Slug Support Case Manager for Graduate students also supports the activities, programs, and services associated with the functions of the Dean of Students office.

Budgeted Salary: $66,900 - $75,000 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES
70% - Student Advocacy and Coordination of Responses to Students in Distress
• Provides direct student support in meeting with students to assess and provide assistance regarding distressing and sensitive situations they may be navigating. • Manages graduate and international students of concern cases that require gathering information, developing recommendations for response and taking the initiative to mobilize appropriate responses and/or services. • Provides information to the student and student's family (as appropriate) and conveys information to other units including Counseling and Psychological Services, Academic Advisers, • Graduate departments, International Student & Scholar Services, Faculty, Residential Services, Resource Centers, Campus Police, and other campus entities, ensuring that appropriate resources are available and post-intervention strategies are mobilized on behalf of the student and the campus community. • Provides administrative interface, coordinating with various campus partners to ensure coherent integration of campus and community resources for individual students who face challenges with academic, health, conduct, substance abuse, financial, and social issues.
15% - Distress Student Consultation
• In consultation and collaboration with units across the University, serves as a point of contact for members of the campus community who are concerned about a graduate or international student. • Consults with other departments on student cases. • Connects students to resources and offices across campus such as Counseling and Psychological Services, Academic Advising, and Residential Life, among others, develop action plans, and follow up with students, staff, and faculty as appropriate. • Serves as an active member of the UC System-wide Case Management Team as well as the Systemwide Graduate Student Case Management team. • Responds to inquiries about distressed students from faculty, staff, students, and parents/family members. • Provides information and resources to appropriate campus services. • Activates the Slug Support team for high-level and high-risk incidents as needed. • Provides information and training for the Graduate, department staff, and community, including consulting about students who may need support as well as providing general information about Slug Support during Orientation and other key events. • Works directly with students referred by the Graduate Division to help resolve complex situations and advocate on their behalf.
10% - Partnership Building
• Develops and fosters relationships with key campus partners such as the International Student & Scholar Services, the graduate division, graduate departments, and the Graduate Student Association to better serve graduate students and develop best practices for supporting their unique needs. • Serves as a member of the Graduate Student of Concern working group to discuss specific students of concern and larger issues impacting the graduate student community, and to develop resources and solutions.
5% - Outreach and Education
• Works collaboratively with Counseling and Psychological Services and other campus units and departments on the provision of campus-wide training and programs as well as publications regarding responding to graduate students in distress or who are experiencing basic need insecurities. • Develops and delivers specialized curriculum and training programs as requested by campus departments regarding responding to students in distress, and educational workshops about Dean of Students services and programs. • Works with a broad cross-section of campus departments (e.g., Orientation Programs, Wellness Programs, Disability Resource Centers, Resource Centers, Counseling and Psychological Services, Graduate Departments, and Residential Services to develop and implement marketing campaigns for the campus's student mental health messages and information, with particular attention to educating students on their role in the well-being of fellow students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. • Demonstrated experience in crisis management, crisis intervention, and case management with college students and emerging adults. • Broad knowledge of health care, mental health care, crisis management, and services. Experience in prevention, psycho-educational, and educational outreach and programming for students, faculty, staff, and parents/family members. • Demonstrated ability to initiate and coordinate campus and community services for students including connecting students to comprehensive programs on campus to help them succeed as well as advocate on their behalf in extenuating circumstances, and assist them in understanding and accessing resources available to them. • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively, productively, and sensitively with students, faculty, staff, and parents per the standards and practices related to the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA) and the relevant policies and best practices. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary organizational setting including on-campus residential facilities, faculty, campus administration, campus health providers, off-campus health care providers, law enforcement, and the courts. • Demonstrated ability to uphold the UCSC nondiscrimination policy by actively promoting inclusion in diverse communities diverse by race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer-related or genetic characteristics), genetic information, ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service in the uniformed services. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Public Health, or related field. • Direct experience working on college campuses with graduate students and international students in a health or mental health setting.
