The Office of General Counsel (OGC), which is a part of the Kennedy Center’s Office of the President, advocates for and protects the legal interests of the Kennedy Center and its affiliate organizations, Washington National Opera (WNO) and the National Symphony Orchestra (NSO). OGC works closely with offices across the Kennedy Center to help manage/mitigate risk and develop operational and programmatic strategies in support of the Kennedy Center’s mission. Specifically, OGC provides advice and counsel to the Board of Trustees, the President, the leadership team, WNO, NSO, as well as staff in various Kennedy Center offices on a wide range of legal matters to ensure the Kennedy Center is compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
This internship with OGC is unpaid.
General Counsel Placement
Projects:
Researching applicable laws and legal precedents in order to provide legal support to attorneys working on cases pertaining to the Center’s intellectual property, employment and labor law, contracts, ethics, governance, tort claims, policy and regulatory matters. Assist in the review and organization of legal documents, contracts, and agreements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established standards and guidelines. Providing updates on applicable law statutes related to the Kennedy Center as a whole. This person will also be working with HR on policies and procedures as well as being involved with PRO reporting for Jazz, Programming, Hip Hop and Social impact.
Learning Opportunities:
As a Legal Intern, you will gain valuable hands-on experience in a legal setting, assisting our legal team in various tasks and projects. This internship offers an opportunity to work closely with experienced attorneys and professionals, learn about legal processes, and contribute to the success of our organization as it relates to the Kennedy Center.
Remote internship opportunities will be considered, and we are open to working with students that might receive school credit for their participation in our internship/externship program.
