Job Description

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of related training and experience. Applicants within six months of meeting the education/experience requirement may be considered for trainee status.

A Valid Florida Driver License is required and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets the requirements of Alachua County policy #6-7; Motor Vehicle Records will be reviewed prior to employment.   If, in the past 24-month period, the applicants Motor Vehicle Record has more than three (3) moving traffic infractions or three (3) or more at fault motor vehicle accidents (or combination of both and /or a conviction/pending charge for driving under the influence) or is in violation of any standard mandated by Federal or State Law or Regulation, the minimum qualifications are not met for the position.

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination and successful completion of all applicable background checks pre-hire and ongoing are required.Position Summary

This is limited-skilled manual work in the maintenance and upkeep of county parks and facilities, in addition to providing routine office and excellent customer service duties.
 
An employee assigned to this classification performs a variety of light tasks including the care and maintenance of parks grounds and facilities, routine office work of limited complexity involving the performance of general clerical functions, cash handling, and customer service.

Work is performed under the direction of a higher level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.

 

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work.
 
Exudes a positive customer service focus.
 
Advocates building organizational culture through aligning decisions with core values including: integrity, honesty, respect, diversity, innovation, accountability and communication.
Provides courteous, prompt and knowledgeable customer service to the public in parks and county rental facilities.
 
Gathers/tracks statistical data and citizens inquiries.
 
Assists in the compilation of materials using specific personal computer software.
 
Schedules facility and ensures documents are finalized; collects fees for rental of parks facilities and amenities.
Maintains assigned park facilities in clean and sanitary conditions; picks up trash and disposes at appropriate sites, restocks and cleans restroom facilities, sidewalks and parking areas.
 
Operates light truck and maintenance equipment such as leaf blowers.

Monitors assigned park areas, and advises supervisor when non-routine repairs are needed.

Assists other crew members in varied work assignments.

Drives a County and/or personal vehicle to perform required duties. 

Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of general grounds keeping.

Knowledge of methods and tools used in grounds keeping, nursery and landscaping work.

Knowledge of basic janitorial services.

Skill in the use and care of gardening and/or nursery tools and equipment.

Skill in dealing tactfully and courteously with callers and visitors.

Ability to perform manual labor outdoors in various weather conditions.

Ability to operate light truck and maintenance equipment such as leaf blowers.

Ability to communicate professionally, effectively, orally and in writing.

Ability to reconcile daily transactions. 

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Ability to work effectively, and efficiently, under limited, indirect supervision.

Ability to learn assigned tasks and adhere to prescribed routines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts, and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Vacation Leave – Generous vacation accrual rates with payout of unused accrued leave, with some restrictions. For more detailed information regarding vacation leave refer to Employee Policy Manual, Section 7-2.

Sick leave is earned at a rate of 4 hours per pay period by all permanent, full-time employees*. At the end of each fiscal year, eligible employees can convert up to 10 days of accrued sick leave to vacation leave on a 2:1 basis. Salary

$36,920.00 Annually
