The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will collaborate with the County Administrator in establishing the strategic direction, mission and operations of Washington County. The CFO applies critical thinking skills and financial acumen to the long-term goals of the County. This position takes ownership of the long-term financial health of the organization and will exercise and apply professional judgment to complex, multi-disciplinary and sensitive issues.
The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for establishing the strategic direction and management of the activities and staff in the Department of Finance. The CFO leads a team of approximately twenty-eight employees and five direct reports, including a Deputy Chief Financial Officer, Procurement Manager, Print and Mail Services Manager and financial analysts.
This position oversees the annual countywide $1.4 billion budget process and is responsible for developing equitable, outcome-based recommendations to the County Administrator and contributes to the production of budget and financial reports. The CFO leads the planning and execution of the County’s comprehensive financial plan and financial strategies and provides expert advice and counsel to Washington County Departments and the County Administrative Office.

A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, finance, accounting or closely related field and six (6) or more years relevant experience, including responsibility for financial management, budget development and management, financial forecasting or accounting. At least three (3) years of experience must include supervision of professional-level staff. Experience with advancing equity initiatives in budget and finance, measuring equity outcomes and direct experience engaging diverse community stakeholders is essential. Multi-cultural experience and bilingual skills are highly desired.
A master’s degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, finance or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred. International City/County Management Association Credentialed Manager (ICMA-CM) designation or other leadership certification is ideal.
The salary range for the Chief Financial Officer is $156,442 – $199,663 and will depend on the qualifications of the successful candidates. The County provides an excellent benefits package.
