DESCRIPTION
The Napa Sanitation District is currently accepting applications for a Plant Maintenance Supervisor (full-time). This supervisory class is responsible for the District’s daily operations and activities related to the maintenance of wastewater treatment plant equipment, facilities, and related appurtenances in a continuously operating wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, and related facilities.
Under general direction from the Plant Maintenance Manager, the Plant Maintenance Supervisor will supervise and support staff responsible for performing a variety of maintenance in the areas of electrical, electronic, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, and concrete work. This position must also ensure that all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements are met related to the work performed by the maintenance staff.
This is the full supervisory level classification in the wastewater treatment plant maintenance functional area that exercises independent judgment on diverse maintenance and repair matters and has significant accountability and ongoing decision-making responsibilities associated with the work. The incumbent oversees and participates in day-to-day maintenance activities to ensure that District wastewater treatment and pumping facilities systems and equipment are maintained in a safe and effective working condition.
The incumbent serves in the capacity of working supervisor by performing the most complex maintenance and repair duties within the work unit and ensuring that the District meets all regulatory agency requirements. Performance of the work requires the use of considerable independence, initiative, and discretion within established guidelines. This class is distinguished from the Plant Maintenance Manager in that the latter is a management class with responsibility for the oversight of all treatment plant and facilities maintenance through multiple subordinate levels of supervision.
Probationary period: 12 months
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Experience: Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of wastewater or water treatment plant equipment or an industrial facility environment. Those with transferable skills from similar industrial environments are encouraged to apply.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid California Class C Driver’s License and maintain a satisfactory driving record. Must possess a California Water Environmental Association Grade III Mechanical Technologist or Electrical/Instrumentation Technologist Certification or the ability to obtain such certification within one (1) years of appointment to the classification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in a wastewater treatment plant environment; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, to climb and descend ladders, to use specialized test equipment, to operate varied hand and power tools and construction equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various District sites; vision to detect shades of color, read printed materials, charts and gauges and a computer screen; smell to identify odors; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment and assistance from other staff.
Must be available for standby and response to off-hours emergency situations.

This class is responsible for duties related to the District’s performance of bacteriological and chemical analysis and data interpretation of surface and ground water, wastewater, and recycled water.
Under general supervision, the Lab Analyst I/II will perform a variety of routine duties such as field sampling collection, field investigations, calibration and operation of complex laboratory equipment, compilation of water quality data for regulatory compliance, evaluation of data, research and records management, inventory management, quality control, and facility maintenance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess physical characteristics and mobility to climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop and kneel, stand for long periods of time, work on uneven surfaces, work in and around raw and treated wastewater, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Performs laboratory work, quality control, and quality assurance evaluation in accordance with the California State Water Resources Control Board Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program standards for laboratory accreditation and certification. DESCRIPTION
The Napa Sanitation District is currently accepting applications for one full-time position of Operator I/II. This class is responsible for duties related to the District’s operations of wastewater treatment plant equipment and appurtenances.
Under supervision, the Operator I/II will perform a variety of routine duties such as control of treatment, pumping, and reclamation facilities for proper processing of wastewater, biosolids and recycled water within mandated operation requirements. Examples of duties: Inspect equipment, analyze operational information and test results, monitor SCADA system, perform preventative maintenance, maintain facilities and equipment, operate automated controls to regulate the flow of wastewater through the system, and calibrate instruments as required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

License or Certificate: Operator I/II – Possession of a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License. A Class “B” California Driver’s License must be acquired within six (6) months of employment. Operator I must possess a California SWRCB Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate. DESCRIPTION
The Napa Sanitation District is currently accepting applications for one full-time position of Operator I/II. This class is responsible for duties related to the District’s operations of wastewater treatment plant equipment and appurtenances.
Under supervision, the Operator I/II will perform a variety of routine duties such as control of treatment, pumping, and reclamation facilities for proper processing of wastewater, biosolids and recycled water within mandated operation requirements. Examples of duties: Inspect equipment, analyze operational information and test results, monitor SCADA system, perform preventative maintenance, maintain facilities and equipment, operate automated controls to regulate the flow of wastewater through the system, and calibrate instruments as required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess physical characteristics and mobility to climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop and kneel, stand for long periods of time, work on uneven surfaces, work in and around raw and treated wastewater, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone or two-way radio.
Perform a variety of maintenance, upkeep and repair work on District buildings, facilities and grounds. Safely and efficiently operate hand and power equipment. Understand and carry out oral and written directions. Must possess physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the class, including sufficient strength to lift at least 75 pounds.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Experience: Operator I – One (1) year experience performing the function of a wastewater treatment plant operator at a level equivalent to the District’s Operator-in-Training class. Operator II – Two (2) years’ experience performing the functions of a wastewater treatment plant operator at a level equivalent to the District’s Operator I class.
License or Certificate: Operator I/II – Possession of a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License. A Class “B” California Driver’s License must be acquired within six (6) months of employment. Operator I must possess a California SWRCB Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate. Operator II must possess a California SWRCB Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate.
Other Requirements: Must be available for standby and response to off-hours emergency situations. Will be expected to work regular weekend and holiday shifts due to 7-day a week operation of the District.
