General Purpose:   The Sustainability Communications Manager develops and executes internal and external communications, web and social media strategies, and plans and implements campus-wide events for the Office of Sustainability. This position collaborates with Yale’s network of communications professionals, campus partners, operational green teams, and community organizations on sustainability-related programs, communications, and events. Develops strong, collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external constituents, and serves as a representative of the Office of Sustainability. Manages the creation and distribution of all print and electronic materials, including but not limited to: E-newsletters targeted to students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Articles, blog posts, and explainers on various sustainability topics. Social media postings and conversations on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Event announcements, invitations, programs, and signage. Office of Sustainability website and other sustainability-related web content as necessary. Periodic publications for a broader audience of alumni and community members. Photo and publication archives. Annual reports, as needed. Manages projects and efforts of communications interns and freelance staff, as needed. Analyzes social media and website metrics for continuous improvement. Coordinates large and small-scale events, including week-long activities in the fall and spring. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: compiling and vetting potential speakers. leading planning meetings. developing and adhering to event production and promotion timelines. evaluating and booking venues. Updates and manages an employee engagement strategy for administrative units. Responsibilities may include developing and managing engagement platforms to educate and energize green team members, coordinate regular reporting on goals, and support programming and communications amongst interest groups. A writing sample is required. Required Education and Experience:   Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. General Purpose:   The Sustainability Data Analyst is responsible for identifying appropriate methodologies for and evaluating sustainability metrics related to the institution’s sustainability goals and reporting initiatives. The primary responsibility of this position is to plan, direct, and oversee the development of quantitative and qualitative data to support and measure progress of sustainability initiatives. The person in this role must be able to communicate strategically and effectively through data, and will be responsible for interpreting results and ensuring data accuracy. The deliverables produced in this position will contribute to the coverage Yale receives around its sustainability efforts, and affects whether Yale upholds its reputation as an industry leader in higher education sustainability. This position is responsible for assessing the quantitative and qualitative outcomes of sustainability reporting and making recommendations for key points to communicate and how to potentially improve programming. This position requires discretion around sensitive data intended to stay internal within Yale. Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to: Collection and analysis of annual sustainability metrics and production of annual Sustainability Progress Report. Regular analysis, reporting, and visualizations of various sustainability topic areas, including: purchasing, waste, transportation, and energy, and versions appropriate for both internal to Yale (e.g. leadership) and external to Yale (e.g. peer institutions, website Data Hub) audiences. Project manage and administration of the bi-annual Transportation Survey. Reviews survey results, conducts data analysis, and completes Transportation Survey Report. Project manage and administration of the bi-annual Sustainability Literacy Survey. Development of the business case for sustainability projects at Yale. Project manage and completion of Yale’s bi-annual AASHE STARS submission. Management and creation of the Office’s internal Annual Report. Collection and analysis of metrics to identify and measure the success of various programs related to sustainability. Recommends programmatic or communications adjustments based on knowledge of Yale and New Haven sustainability priorities. Creation of compelling data visualizations to communicate findings from data analyses. Possible mapping/GIS work. This position enhances collaboration across Yale’s residential colleges and professional schools and contributes to the planning and management of key visibility events such as Celebrate Sustainability and Earth Day. This position may require some evening/weekend hours.
