This specialist will conduct targeted outreach to anglers, angler groups, relevant stakeholders, and communities along the Champlain Canal to increase awareness of round goby and reduce the risk of overland transportation of this invasive species. They will build connections with communities along the Champlain canal corridor to increase awareness of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) study to construct an AIS barrier that will allow for continued recreational use of the canal system and respond to questions and concerns from these communities around the benefits and impacts of the project to their community. They will also assist the NYSDEC Lake Champlain Coordinator and LCBP AIS Management Coordinator with additional AIS-related outreach, organizing, spread prevention, monitoring, and management work in the basin, as needed.

NEIWPCC is seeking a full-time Assistant Accountant to perform various accounting and administrative duties associated with the Capital Replacement Program, an agreement between NEIWPCC and the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYC DEP) to replace certain wastewater treatment infrastructure within the City’s water supply watershed. This is a great opportunity for a junior accountant to grow their financial skillset, while supporting local environmental improvement efforts.
This role supports the Capital Replacement Program by assisting the DEP Project Manager with various administrative functions. The primary responsibility of the position is to review detailed financial reconciliations of operations and maintenance (O&M) expenditures of each wastewater treatment facility in the NYC watershed for each fiscal year, which will require the preparation of O&M documents, tracking of annual budgets, and the comparison of submitted O&M invoices with their annual reconciliation documentation. Other job responsibilities include preparing files for offsite storage, maintaining accurate documentation of files, and attending meetings with WWTF owners and operators, engineers, and lawyers, as assigned.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field, and have at least one year of professional work experience in an accounting or auditing role. Ability to organize workload and perform tasks in an accurate, conclusive, responsible, and timely manner will be needed. Strong Excel skills and the ability to learn and use advanced formulas and functions (e.g., vlookup, PivotTables, subtotals) within electronic spreadsheets is preferred. This role supports the Capital Replacement Program by assisting the DEP Project Manager with various administrative functions. The primary responsibility of the position is to review detailed financial reconciliations of operations and maintenance (O&M) expenditures of each wastewater treatment facility in the NYC watershed for each fiscal year, which will require the preparation of O&M documents, tracking of annual budgets, and the comparison of submitted O&M invoices with their annual reconciliation documentation. Other job responsibilities include preparing files for offsite storage, maintaining accurate documentation of files, and attending meetings with WWTF owners and operators, engineers, and lawyers, as assigned.

We are seeking one Education and Outreach Steward who will expand outreach programming to State parks, summer camps, lake and river events, upper reaches of the watershed and downtown locations to answer questions about Lake Champlain and offer opportunities for citizen action. The LCBP Outreach Steward should be able to discuss a variety of watershed issues with the public and provide resources for getting involved or changing behavior to benefit the watershed. The successful candidate will have solid communication skills along with attention to detail. Coursework or demonstrated passionate interest in Lake Champlain and watershed issues covered in the 2021 State of the Lake report desired. The ability to interact positively with the public at informal outreach events and in the LCBP Resource Room required. Photography skills a plus. Completion of at least junior year of college recommended.

Experience operating watercraft and /or motorized equipment and basic familiarity with boaters, anglers, and recreational equipment will be useful.
We are seeking one Education and Outreach Steward who will expand outreach programming to State parks, summer camps, lake and river events, upper reaches of the watershed and downtown locations to answer questions about Lake Champlain and offer opportunities for citizen action. The LCBP Outreach Steward should be able to discuss a variety of watershed issues with the public and provide resources for getting involved or changing behavior to benefit the watershed. The successful candidate will have solid communication skills along with attention to detail. Coursework or demonstrated passionate interest in Lake Champlain and watershed issues covered in the 2021 State of the Lake report desired. The ability to interact positively with the public at informal outreach events and in the LCBP Resource Room required. Photography skills a plus. Completion of at least junior year of college recommended.
Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and COVID-19 vaccination required for both positions.
