Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 16 years old.  

Licenses and/or Certificates:

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification

• CPR Certificate for Professional Rescuer

• Standard First Aid Certificate

Lifeguard certification is required, this training will be provided upon hire.

CPR/First Aid certification is required; this training will be provided upon hire.  

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen & physical examination and requires the successful completion of a Level 2 criminal history background investigation prior to employment including finger printing and compliance with Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) requirements.

Position Summary

This is a seasonal recreational position and is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions, enforcing established rules and regulations, and rescuing those who are in distress. 
 
Work involves maintaining the quality of swimming pool water and appearance of pool facilities and leadership and instruction responsibilities to pool guests, children and/or teens. Individuals in the position will be a positive role model.

Provides polite enforcement of rules, regulations, and policies to all guests, groups, and organizations.
 
Serves as a lifeguard when needed.
 
Perform inspections of pool, pool deck and chemical levels; completes routine paperwork as required.
 
Performs rescuer duties as needed including CPR, First Aid, and Advanced Rescues.
 
Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and proper function of the pool.
 
Provides patrons with information and assistance; communicates in a timely manner regarding inquiries and complaints.
 
Conducts swim lessons.
 
Maintain the health and safety of all users of the facilities and all employees.
 
May assist in the delivery of aquatic programs and special events.
 
Completes incident paperwork as required.
 
Performs the duties listed, as well as those assigned, with professionalism and a sense of urgency.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
 
Knowledge of pool safety guidelines.
 
Knowledge of water rescue techniques, methods and first aid as applies to accidents in the water and pool area, including CPR and Auto External Defibrillator and oxygen administration.
 
Knowledge of pool maintenance and safe operation standards.
 
Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
 
Skill in swimming, water rescues, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and first aid.
 
Skill in the use of pool equipment, chemicals and tools.
 
Ability to be proactive in regards to safety precautions, to recognize emergencies, and to take appropriate action.
 
Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
 
Ability to make recommendations and to use resourcefulness and tact in solving new problems.
 
Ability to handle distressed swimmers and patrons in a professional manner.
 
Ability to ascertain priorities and meet deadlines and objectives.
 
Ability to serve as a role model, demonstrating dependability, enthusiasm and creativity.
