Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.  Successful completion of a criminal history background investigation is required prior to employment.  

Position Summary

This is specialized, entry-level clerical work registering voters and maintaining required records for the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Office.

An employee assigned to this classification registers qualified persons as voters, maintaining current voter registration records for use in general and special elections. Work is routine and performed within the guidelines of established laws and rules and departmental regulations and procedures.

Work is performed under the direction of the Elections Chief Deputy Supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained.
 

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 

Assists voters at counter by answering questions relating to eligibility and voter registration procedures.

Registers new voters.

Makes names and address changes or party changes.

Inputs new registrations into computer.

Mails out voter ID cards.

Searches records for requested information.

Identifies precinct of registered voter, if necessary.

Mails voter registration information cards and letters.

Scans bar codes for voter history after elections.

Verifies petition signatures. 
 
Answers incoming telephone calls: responds to general questions, routes calls to appropriate staff and/or takes and delivers oral and written messages.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Some knowledge of the principles, practices and machines used in modern office clerical procedures.

Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations which govern the qualifications and registration of voters process.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.

Ability to express one's self clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

•FLORIDA RETIREMENT SYSTEM (FRS) The Florida Retirement System is a retirement plan designed to provide an income to a vested employee and his/her family when the employee retires, becomes partially or totally disabled, or dies prior to retirement.  A defined benefit or defined contribution option may be chosen by the employee.
