Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs responsible, complex secretarial assignments related to administrative and public relations activities for one or more County Executive department directors.  Takes notes and creates documents concerning policy matters, special reports, legal documents and/or correspondence with specialized or technical terminology. Is skilled in the operation of Microsoft Office software, document production, and with complex software applications specific to the department. Recognizes and corrects actions which deviate from established administrative policies.  Prepares, organizes and maintains computer and paper files for department functions related to human resources, work procedures, operating budget administration, correspondence, reports, statistics and related organizational materials. Screens inquiries and correspondence to make referrals to appropriate parties. Coordinates multiple calendars, schedules meetings and attends when requested to obtain documentation for supervisor. Assists with events and event planning as needed. Utilizes current county-wide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

1.   Be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) Test. 

2.  Have had four (4) years of full-time clerical experience using various word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.  Experience in a high-level executive support role is preferred.  

NOTE:   Course work at an accredited college, university, or business school in a related area may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the clerical work experience on a year-for-year basis. 

3.  Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical established for this classification. 

4.  Successfully complete the six (6) month probationary period.
