MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER The SANDAG Communications Department is taking advantage of unprecedented times as new service programs are being launched, transportation projects are being completed, and sophisticated marketing efforts are underway. With public outreach and education as the foundation of their work, the team is focused on developing and implementing strategic communication and marketing plans to support a variety of projects while meeting state and federal requirements. Examples of current major agency projects include the 11 mile extension of the San Diego Trolley from Old Town to UCSD, Bus Rapid Transit service in the I-15 and I-805 corridors, infrastructure for extended FasTrak service throughout the region, the Compass Card program, regional traveler information services through iCommute and 511, and the Regional Comprehensive Plan update. Through close collaboration and coordination with internal project teams, outside stakeholders, member agencies, and vendors, the team develops communication plans, Web pages, logos, advertising campaigns, brochures, and collateral materials such as video production and other promotional pieces. The implementation of these unique products and services requires superior marketing knowledge, aggressive fortitude, and grit. The Marketing Communications Manager will coordinate communication and marketing strategies that promote SANDAG projects and programs and ensure a strong, positive identity among all audiences. This work includes managing multiple concurrent projects, developing and implementing outreach and communication plans, leading marketing efforts, responding to requests for information, developing news stories for mass media, and contributing to a variety of internal and external publications. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in journalism, communications, marketing, planning, or a related field and at least five years of progressive career development in a communications/public information environment. Controller/Director of Accounting Services

The University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for the position of Controller/Director of Accounting Services. The successful candidate for this position will lead the controller responsibilities for a premier Big 10 university with an enrollment of 42,000 students and a national and international reputation for educational excellence and cutting-edge research. UW-Madison has an annual budget of approximately $2.7 billion. Funding sources include state tax support, student tuition, federal research funding, gifts, grants, segregated fees and revenue from program operations. The university has 120 academic departments and more than 200 educational and research centers across 13 schools and colleges. 
The Controller/Director of Accounting Services supervises 45 employees and reports to theUW-Madison Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business Services. This position is a key member of the Business Services management team and is responsible for University-wide Controllership and managing Accounting Services functions at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Principal Duties
·         Influencing, developing and implementing financial policies and procedures for all university-wide business processes.
·         Assisting with financial management of the university’s budget of $2.3 Billion.
·         Maintaining timely communications with departments and divisions to facilitate accuracy and integrity of financial information. 
·         Maintaining and documenting a system of internal control over all financial assets and transactions and periodically assessing for changing conditions and risk tolerances.
·         Developing and implementing annual and long range business plans that coordinate with the UW-Madison’s plan and become a part of Business Services’ plans.
·         Working with UW System Administration and the UW-Madison Division of Information Technology (DoIT) to establish priorities and implement changes to the UW System’s Shared Financial System (SFS), based on Peoplesoft’s Financial software suite; including maintaining proper software change controls.
·         Exploring, negotiating and implementing interfaces between the SFS financial ledger and other UW-Madison systems supporting business cycles, such as payroll and benefits, research administration, student accounts, revenue, fixed asset management, procurement, and accounts payable.
·         Working with institutional management and divisional business representatives from schools, college, administrative, and auxiliary units to design and implement a general ledger chart of accounts that allows them to effectively manage finances at UW-Madison.
·         Maintaining UW-Madison’s compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), tax laws and regulations, and other federal and State record keeping and reporting regulations.
·         Directing and coordinating the annual fiscal year closing of the accounting records and providing System Administration with year-end information needed to prepare the UW System GAAP basis financial statements.
·         Preparing and analyzing UW-Madison internal financial reports in conjunction with the UW-Madison Budget Office.
·         Participating in the development and negotiation of UW-Madison’s Federal Facilities and Administrative (F&A) rates and Federal fringe benefit rates.
·         Maintaining key statistics related to the financial processes and using those statistics to continuously improve processes via techniques such as Six Sigma as part of UW-Madison’s ongoing Administrative Process Redesign efforts.
·         Directing and managing the staff of Accounting Services, developing talents and expertise of staff and recruiting and retaining a diverse staff of well qualified and high performing professionals, in accordance with the Human Resources directions outlined in Business Services’ Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles.
Relevant Experience, Skills and Requirements
·         Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field required. MBA or other advanced degree desirable. CPA desirable.
·         Minimum of 6 years of financial management experience preferably in higher education or a large decentralized business enterprise.
·         Visionary planning and leadership skills
·         Written and oral communications skills to deliver presentations to general audiences and executive level
·         Experience in providing leadership to a diverse staff and delivering business  services within a creative business that is highly regulated and subject to compliance requirements
·         Data analysis and project management skills
·         Team management and negotiation skills
·         Change management skills
·         Experience in the design, acquisition, and implementation of complex financial systems in large organizations
·         Financial expertise and knowledge of GAAP for Colleges and Universities
·         Understanding of state and federal regulations related to finances and accounting in higher education institutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The Washington Government Relations Director plans, implements and coordinates a comprehensive program for the Conservancy’s Washington Program to affect government policy and legislation at all levels to further the Conservancy’s mission. S/he monitors legislative and administrative initiatives and policies, which are related to the mission or programs of TNC, and ensures that the program complies with state and federal lobbying laws and regulations. Duties include regular contact with federal, state and other government officials regarding matters pertaining to legislative and administrative actions related to the mission of The Nature Conservancy and Washington Program, as well as public fund raising activity to increase the level of financial support for TNC and Washington Program projects and priorities. The Washington Government Relations Director collaborates with Conservation Programs and other Washington Program staff to develop government relations strategies that advance the conservation goals of the Washington Program.

 

The Washington Government Relations Director is the leader of the Government Relations Team and serves as a member of the Senior Management Team of the Washington Program. S/he is responsible for management and administration of the Washington Government Relations program, including development of an annual plan and budget, and supervision of the Government Relations staff.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and advancing government policies and programs that support The Nature Conservancy’s mission and the Washington Program’s conservation goals;
  • Planning, developing and implementing an annual plan and budget for the Washington Government Relations Program, and supervising Government Relations staff;
  • Advocating and lobbying for federal priority policies and public funding for programs and projects, including elements of federal agency budgets that are key to conservation priorities and advance the work of The Nature Conservancy and its partners;
  • Researching, analyzing, evaluating and preparing recommendations on state and federal public policy issues, policy options and the potential impacts of proposed legislation, proposed rulemaking efforts, and changes in agency policies;
  • Building and maintaining productive relationships and open communications with Washington’s

Congressional delegation and staff, key federal agency officials, and, when necessary, state and local public officials;

  • Assuring compliance with all state and federal lobbying laws and regulations, including responsibility for maintaining, reporting and tracking all chapter state and federal lobbying activities;
  • Representing The Nature Conservancy’s government relations program with coalitions and stakeholder groups;
  • Serving as a member of the Washington Senior Management Team;
  • Engaging and supporting the Washington Board of Trustees’ Government Relations Committee; and
