Communications Director - Krannert Center for the Performing Arts
Krannert Center for the Performing Arts is accepting applications for a Communications Director. Krannert Center is looking for an organized and collaborative communicator to lead a team of diversely skilled communications professionals in creating, implementing, and evaluating communications strategies and plans. Duties and Responsibilities-
Communications Leadership
• Working with Krannert Center's Communications team and other stakeholders, collaboratively and proactively brainstorm, develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate integrated online/offline external communications strategies and plans that support business goals for Krannert Center and the performance related areas of Illinois Theatre, Lyric Theatre mailto:@ Illinois, and Dance at Illinois.
◦ Oversee and contribute to the Communications team's areas of responsibility, which include direct communications (digital and print), on-site environmental design and communications, paid advertising (digital, print, radio, TV, outdoor, other), publicity and media relations, social media, website content, photography, videography, performance program booklets, and other aspects of the student, customer, and employee journey. ◦ Lead the Communications team in collaboratively identifying and pursuing strategic promotional and paid advertisement opportunities. ◦ Provide creative briefs when appropriate. ◦ Keep clients up-to-date on the progress of their communications projects. ◦ Oversee the ongoing development and enhancement of the Center's website, developing and maintaining a roadmap for the Center's web initiatives, based on input from relevant stakeholders and working in collaboration with a partner web development company. ◦ Working with the Ticket Services Director, manage the relationship between the Center's website and its ticketing software, identifying and pursuing opportunities for enhanced communications and increased ticket sales. ◦ Oversee the management and enhancement of photography and videography resources.
• Build and maintain Krannert Center's brand through communications work.
• Develop and implement standards to measure the success of communications work in order to make wise decisions about opportunities and the use of resources. Seek, research, and collaboratively implement best practices in external and internal communications.
• Lead the communications team's budget management process.
• Build relationships with staff, students, and faculty involved with Krannert Center and the Performing Arts at Illinois and stay well informed about the Center's creative processes and performances.
• Stay informed about campus life, campus policies and procedures, and community life in order to create current, relevant, and responsive communications.
• Maintain knowledge of Krannert Center's diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) efforts and actively apply DEIA principles to the work.
• Across Krannert Center communications, ensure visual unity and consistency in messaging along with adherence to Krannert Center, College of Fine and Applied Arts, and University of Illinois writing and identity standards.
• Lead management and maintenance of Krannert Center's physical and digital communications archives.
• Contribute to crisis communications planning and management, both external and internal.
Staff Management
• Supervise, guide, and empower the members of the Communications team: Assistant Communications Director, Program and Web Editor, Art Director, and freelance partners. This work includes but is not limited to,
◦ Assign projects and ensure deadlines are met, projects are routed to appropriate stakeholders, work is completed in a satisfactory manner, and solutions stay within budget. ◦ Identify crossover between projects to streamline work processes as well as create opportunities for collaboration. ◦ As appropriate, use technology to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of Krannert Center's communications work and collaborations. ◦ Facilitate resource-gathering for the team; provide coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluation as appropriate. ◦ Facilitate learning experiences as part of the team's work to stay up to date in the industry. ◦ Determine need for and budget available for freelance specialists to complete necessary work; areas could include but are not limited to graphic design, photography, and videography.
Other Collaborative, Administrative, and Committee work
• As appropriate, participate in various committees and initiatives at Krannert Center, in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, and at the campus level.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Work requires some evening and weekend shifts at Krannert Center events.
Position Qualifications-
Required
• Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
• Three (3) years (36 months)of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional area.
• Demonstrated supervisory experience.

Position Summary This is highly responsible administrative and professional work managing, implementing, and administrating the Alachua County Concurrency Management System, Multi-Modal Transportation Program, Transportation Planning, Geographic Information Systems and Development Impact Fee Ordinances & Code. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for all activities and operations of the transportation planning, concurrency and impact fee code division including the evaluation of the transportation impact of proposed development, fee determination, exemptions, collections, encumbrances, and reporting. Work is performed under the direction of a higher level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS This is an emergency essential classification. Upon declaration of a disaster and/or emergency, all employees in this classification are required to work. Exudes a positive customer service focus. Advocates building organizational culture through aligning decisions with core values including: integrity, honesty, respect, diversity, innovation, accountability and communication. Supervises and coordinates the activities of subordinate supervisors and employees including determining work procedures and schedules; issuing instructions; reviewing work; recommending personnel actions; conducting performance reviews; and conducting departmental training and orientation. Ensures compliance with Alachua County Unified Land Development Code, the Comprehensive Plan and Florida Statutes for Multi-Modal Transportation Planning, Capital Improvements Planning, Concurrency, Multi-Modal Transportation Mitigation and Impact Fees. Develops and manages Concurrency Management System and Multi-Modal Transportation Mitigation Planning, which includes long range transportation and capital improvements planning, for the County in order to insure the public infrastructure (roads, public safety facilities, etc) necessary to support growth and land development. Coordinates planning for future multi-modal transportation infrastructure projects, transit service and capital with the Florida Department of Transportation, City of Gainesville, Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization, the Regional Transit System and local municipalities in Alachua County. Coordinates bicycle and pedestrian events and activities with the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Board, the University of Florida and Santa Fe College. Works with Finance and Accounting, the Office of Management and Budget and the Public Works Department on updates to the Capital Improvements Plan and the annual update of the Capital Improvements Element. Manages the Geographic Information System Division and ensures coordination of Geographic Information System activities within County Departments and Divisions. Reviews and analyzes amendments to determine consistency and statutory compliance; reviews and comments on site plans and development proposals for compliance and impact of development on the local infrastructure. Analyzes data and develops projections for future conditions and needs of the population and public facilities. Attends meeting, conducts research and makes presentations as staff liaison to the Board of County Commissioners appointed advisory committees including the Development Review Committee. Provides reports and presentations to the County Commission describing fees collected, encumbered and used, and proposed capital improvement programs for each impact fee category; makes presentations to other members of the Department, Administration, and to elected and appointed officials and citizens dealing with factual information and predetermined policy recommendations. Interprets and implements all provisions of the Multi-Modal Transportation Mitigation Program and Development Impact Fees Code & Ordinances in order to provide general administration of all mitigation and fees enacted by Alachua County. Determines applicable or equivalent types of land uses and assesses the appropriate impact fees based on fee schedule. Interprets mitigation and impact fee schedules as applied to particular development using procedures described in the multi-modal transportation mitigation ordinance and the impact fee code & ordinances. Conducts pre-application meetings with applicants and staff. Reviews individual mitigation and fee determination studies for sufficiency, methodology, technical accuracy and findings in order to establish fees under given procedures. Determines exemptions from or credit applied to requirements to pay multi-modal transportation mitigation and impact fees. Directs the establishment and implementation of all Standard Operating Procedures in the Alachua County Development Multi-Modal Transportation Mitigation Ordinance and Impact Fee Code and applicable ordinances. Confers with the public on matters concerning mitigation and impact fee assessments, both in individual and group settings, including making formal presentations to groups of citizens. Compiles data, inventory, and tracking of the county's multi-modal transportation mitigation and development impact fees. Researches applicable federal, state, and local planning/regulatory literature to be used in the formulation of the Comprehensive Plan policy, the Uniform Land Development Code, Multi-Modal Transportation Mitigation and Impact Fee requirements. Operates, as required, motor vehicles (including departmental motor vehicles) in order to conduct inspections, and investigations to obtain data for use in determining code compliance with multi-modal transportation mitigation and development impact fee requirements, attending meetings, and site visits. The University of California's (UC) Summer Institute for Emerging Managers and Leaders (SIEML) serves as a pathway to advance inclusion within the graduate programs at UC's six business schools (Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego). Launched in 2012, SIEML offers undergraduate students enrolled at HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) and HSIs (Hispanic Serving Institutions), an immersive, short-term residential, business education leadership experience and includes graduate fellowships to UC graduate business schools. https://sieml.universityofcalifornia.edu/.
Position Summary Uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Primarily deals with programs and proposals with broad impact across the function, research initiative, program and / or organization. Develops and oversees the implementation of new programs and processes.
Key Responsibilities
• 40% Program Management: Manages SIEML: serves as year-round program lead and lead contact for SIEML. Functions with a high degree of autonomy. Leads SIEML policy and program planning, development, administration, management and implementation. Regularly interprets, monitors and analyzes information regarding policies and procedures and provides consultative services to administrators and other stakeholders. Supports campus host lead in management of the on-site program. Annually coordinates with campus host lead to ensure all key programmatic elements (housing, core program content/agenda, corporate visits/engagement, field trips, speaker series are appropriately addressed by host campus in a manner consistent with program guidelines, timelines and needs. Position may support key programmatic content needs in finalizing the program each year. Position is on site each summer for full duration of the residential program and serves as one of the primary contacts during program each summer. Provides analyses and administration for complex program budget, working directly with internal and external constituents. Develops positions, hires, directs and supervises student interns and ambassadors. Creates and manages SIEML Ambassador Program.
• 30% Outreach, Admissions and Alumni Engagement: Oversees development and implementation of program admissions policies, regulations and guidelines, and evaluates annually for effectiveness. Serves as the systemwide lead for SIEML, represents the program in a wide range of settings and opportunities to advance its brand and impact. Develops and coordinates policy and program communications; Provides comprehensive expert guidance on SIEML admissions policies.
