One Laboratory Instructor position will be filled in the Department of Biological Sciences beginning August 21, 2017 to be part of the Introductory Biology Laboratory team. The position is a non-tenure eligible Instructor appointment for the academic year. The position may be renewed pending satisfactory job performance, availability of funding, and program needs.
Individuals are invited to apply for a Laboratory Instructor position in the Department of Biological Sciences at Northern Arizona University. The applicant will be expected to teach laboratory courses in introductory biology (BIO181L) and to help coordinate laboratory sections, including training and supervision of graduate teaching assistants. The time allotment of the position is 100% teaching and laboratory coordination.
Master’s degree in Biology or equivalent by the beginning of the Fall 2017 term.
One year of college teaching experience in a Biology laboratory course (Teaching experience as a Graduate Teaching Assistant will count toward teaching experience).
Two or more years of college teaching experience in introductory biology laboratories.
Experience supervising graduate and/or undergraduate teaching assistants.
Exceptional communication skills.
Experience working and interacting with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.

If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
