Job Description

ACT is inviting applications for our Staff Attorney position to provide advice and counsel to ACT staff regarding a wide range of legal matters and to draft, review and negotiate contracts between ACT and other organizations.

Typical work-related activities include:
  • Provide advice and counsel to ACT staff on legal matters including privacy, intellectual property, litigation, international, employment, and general corporate issues.
  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts between ACT and its clients, vendors, and other business partners.
  • Conduct research regarding legal issues affecting ACT’s business.
  • Provide training to ACT staff regarding legal issues.
  • Communicate effectively with staff in all areas of the company, outside counsel, and other third parties and their counsel.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in making work-related decisions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and legal issues as they relate to ACT business.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding corporate information.
     

Job Requirements

Juris Doctor degree required and 5 years experience in the practice of law. Current license to practice law in the state of Iowa. Competence in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts. Ability to identify and review relevant caselaw, statutory, and regulatory requirements and apply these requirements to business situations. Competence in advising business clients regarding legal requirements and risks in a collaborative work environment. Ability to communicate with other ACT personnel and external parties through strong, organized writing and verbal skills. Strong organizational skills, including management of projects and workload and setting goals and priorities. Ability to determine practical solutions to complicated problems. Capable of managing stress effectively. Competence in computer usage and standard software including Microsoft® Windows, word-processing, spreadsheet, project management, and database software. Finalist(s) for this position will be subject to a pre-employment criminal background check as a condition of employment.
