OVERVIEW: Girls on the Run is a physical activity based positive youth development program for 3rd – 8th grade girls. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. With projected headquarters annual revenue of over $5 million and projected collective organizational revenue of $43 million in FY2017, the organization’s staff and Board are committed to creating an integrated brand strategy that ensures the highest quality outcomes possible for the girls we serve and the communities we work within. To this end, the organization is currently seeking a person to serve in the position of Communication Director. POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting directly to the Chief Engagement Officer, the Communications Director will develop and implement an integrated strategic marketing & communications plan to strengthen and advance the organization’s brand. This strategy should achieve measurable goals to broaden awareness of our programs and initiatives; increase the visibility of programs across key stakeholder audiences; successfully communicate our story and impact to enhance fund development; develop campaigns and promotions to increase engagement among varied audiences. Develop and implement marketing and communications plan that promote the organization’s initiatives, programs, products, services and fundraising campaigns Write compelling content for literature, press release, internal and external newsletters, annual report, program collateral, development appeals, event materials, websites and other digital properties that showcases the organization’s mission and leads readers to action Utilize storytelling to build and deepen connections between GOTR and key stakeholders Develop and manage an annual editorial calendar, writing rich and varied content on a wide range of topics for both internal and external audiences Lead media relations efforts to include writing and distributing news releases and other media materials to national media, serving as organizational spokesperson when appropriate, updating talking points and other key press materials, pitching/placing stories in traditional and non-traditional media Oversee content and editorial calendar for communications (website, email marketing, internal communication, blog, social media channels, etc) Proofread and edit all GOTRI communications for tone of voice, accuracy and impact, ensuring language connects with the audience Work in conjunction with Donor Relations Manager and Director of Development to develop a donor acquisition strategy and collaborate to develop materials to cultivate, solicit and steward donors Work in conjunction with the Director of Professional Development to develop and deliver communications related training to meet councils’ training needs Oversee the development of an Alumnae engagement strategy Successfully manage creation, collection, analysis and application of marketing and communications’ data, through utilization of both internal and external resources; provide monthly or quarterly and/or annual executive reports and create surveys and internal and external outreach to assist in the collection, analysis and presentation of data to senior leadership team and board of directors Manage Donor Relations Manager and Digital Communications Coordinator GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Serve as a Girls on the Run role model, exhibiting GOTR core values and working to help achieve the GOTR mission Develop positive relationships with national partners, council directors, volunteers, board members, community members and staff Any other duties deemed necessary by the Chief Engagement Officer. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications or related field with a minimum of five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5 years of professional writing and editing experience Working knowledge of all paid, earned and owned MarComm functions — creative, advertising, direct marketing, public relations and promotions. Ideally have demonstrable experience with revenue generating, multi-channel fundraising campaigns. Poised, self-motivated, results oriented, proactive, independent and hands-on communicator Experience in training development and delivery. Excellent written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills Effective project manager who can produce results within project timeframes Strategic thinking with the ability to translate vision and strategy into actions and results Experience leading a team to goal achievement Proven attention to detail and project management skills Highly organized and proactive, with the ability to take initiative and manage multiple tasks and projects at a time and deliver within deadlines Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working in a collaborative environment on creative design projects. Must be goal-oriented, self-motivated, creative, highly-flexible and able to accept feedback. This position is offering a compensation range of $60,000-$65,000, depending on experience.
